Dr. Bloomfield completed his training in Neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix in 1987. He was on faculty at the WVU neurosurgery department from 1989-2005 actively training neurosurgery residents. Since 2005 he has been Professor of Neurosurgery at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute in Edison, NJ actively training neurology residents.
He had 6 months of fellowship training in Epilepsy Surgery at UCLA and 24 months in Stereotactic, Functional, and Neuro-oncology at UC Irvine. He undertook 18 months of formal neurology residency training.
He has a special interest and expertise in the treatment of patients with intractable epilepsy, movement disorders, pain, spasticity, adult onset hydrocephalus, and parenchymal brain tumors.
He has over 20 years experience with radiosurgery using both linac and gamma knife as well as 25 years experience performing stereotactic procedures for brain biopsy, volumetric neuro-navigation guided tumor resection, deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, intra-thecal medication infusion systems and programmable shunts.
He has over 25 years experience with neurotrauma and with routine neurosurgery of the spine.
Dr. Bloomfield has worked with both Defense and Plaintiff's cases in a relatively equal ratio.
