Robert W. Berliner consults with litigators and provides expert testimony in a wide variety of cases. His specialties include securities litigation, accounting malpractice and forensic investigations. His is one of few CPAs, if not the only one to have testified against the SEC on behalf of an auditor in a Rule 2(e) proceeding and to have served as the SEC’s accounting expert in yet another Rule 2(e) case.

Mr. Berliner is a partner in the Litigation Services Group at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP, where he is supported by a staff of seasoned forensic accountants. A former partner at a “Big Four” accounting firm, he has over forty years of experience as an on-line auditor, office managing partner, and National Office partner involved in accounting and auditing, consultations, policies and standards, peer review, and quality control work.

Mr. Berliner has extensive involvement in professional matters as a member of the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the Emerging Issues Task Force of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (EITF), and various other committees and task forces within the accounting profession. He has spoken at many conferences and published many articles in business and professional journals.

Mr. Berliner holds a B.S. degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. degree from New York University, where he had been an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at the Stern School of Business.
