Richard Handwerger, MD is a board certified ophthalmologist with 30 years of hands on clinical experience in many clinical areas of ophthalmology: corneal, cataract, glaucoma, laser, trauma, and refractive surgery. Additionally, his subspecialty interest and experience is the cornea. Infections, dry eye, transplants, contact lenses, trauma, refractive surgery / lasik, inherited and acquired diseases of the cornea.

With an active backgound in both music and medicine, he is an avid pianist, and serves as a member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles based American Youth Symphony, as well as the Eye Defects Research Foundation, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

His graduate education was at Columbia University in both MD as well as Ph.D. programs. Since 1983 he has been attending surgeon at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Califonria. Technical support medical legal service and experience includes: IMEs, QMEs, AMEs, depositions, arbitrations and court experience. Specific experience in accident photoanalysis, airbags, driver impairment, visability, vision and perception, credibility of eye-witness testimony, the limits of human vision, injury biomechanics, dmv requirements, the impaired driver or pilot, night vision, glare, human eyesight in disease states, highway and street signs, and lighing, sports medicine /ocular trauma, loss of the eye, quality of life and disability.

A solid knowledge base, clarity & the ability to communicate effectively are among his most important tools.
