Mr. Burkart has a BSCE degree from University of Missouri and is a Registered Engineer and a Registered Land Surveyor in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has received a Masters Degree in Safety Sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is the founder and President of AEGIS CORP., a consulting engineering firm located in Southampton, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia.
For over 25 years AEGIS CORP. has provided consulting services to the construction and insurance industries in construction safety, rigging, heavy lifts and overland transport of heavy loads. He has developed Guide Procedures for on-site monitoring of numerous heavy lifts, transports and material handling projects for implementation on nuclear construction sites. AEGIS CORP. also provides safety consultation to construction related entities as well as training, accident investigation and forensic services.
Mr. Burkart is widely recognized as a leading instructor of construction safety and safety training. He has taught numerous courses in construction safety and hazard recognition and has devised training programs for insurance companies’ contractors and OSHA inspectors. He has provided custom courses coordinating OSHA requirements and individual company safety requirements, his most recent endeavor with the US Navy, Public Works Department, Philadelphia.
He is a member of various professional societies, including the ASCE and chairs its Committees for Construction Site Safety. He is also a member of the Implementation Team for the ASCE Construction Institute's OSHA Alliance.
Mr. Burkart is a member and has served for 14 years as Chairman of the ANSI A10 Committee, Safety in Construction and Demolition Operations. This Committee promulgates standards relating to construction safety and includes approval of 40 standards promulgated or in development. He is also a member of the ANSI B30.12 Subcommittee, Loads Suspended from Rotorcrafts.
