Specialties: I have served as a consultant/expert witness on around 300 criminal cases (270 were gang cases). Other cases include: criminal/substance abuse/ violence/family violence/company security-liability and related legal topics. Author: 17 Books in criminology and sociology including "Gangsters: 50 Years of Madness, Drugs, & Death on the Streets of America" (I 998); "Criminology" (I990); & “Juvenile Delinquency: Into The 21st Century (2000); and "Gangs In Court" (Jan. 2005). Approved as a "Gang Expert" on The "Panel of Experts" by the Criminal Judges Committee of the LA County Superior Court.

I have participated in the criminal justice system through aiding lawyers in the preparation of testimony, given depositions, and testified in court as an expert witness in a variety of judicial cases for both the prosecution and the defense. Some of the cases I have participated in as legal/consultant and expert/witness include the following: A violent gang murder trial in New York Court; Consultant on testimony related to a Hells Angels Gang murder; In the case of an LA gang member, I testified on the theory of "imperfect self-defense"; On the responsibility of a number of property owners and corporations, when criminal incidents, including murder, occur on their property; In this regard, I testified in the responsibility of a mall owner sued by a youth shot in a gang fracas in front of their store; I testified for the LA County Prosecutor's office during the "Denny Trial", in the wake of the 1992 LA Riots. One of the prosecutor's wrote me,"Your scholarly and articulate commentary from the witness stand helped to communicate to the jury that people must be accountable for their violent behavior in the context of any kind of mob action. Your testimony was significant in the trial, and was very helpful to the prosecution in obtaining the convictions we did and gaining some measure of justice from these tragic events". I have been approved as an Expert-Witness specializing in Gangs by, among others, the California Superior County Courts in: LA , Orange, Sacramento ,San Francisco, Monterey San Diego , Riverside, and the States of Florida, New York and Az.
