J. Rivero & Associates, Inc. was established in 2004. Mr. Rivero's qualifications for performing Wage & Hour consultation services are based on 26 years of employment with the United States Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division (WH). During the first ten years of his career with the Department, he served as a Wage and Hour investigator, at which time he investigated in excess of 1,000 allegations of FLSA violations. He subsequently served as an Assistant District Director in which position he reviewed the FLSA findings of investigators under his supervision, trained new investigators and assisted investigators in the completion of difficult FLSA investigations. For the last 13 years of his employment, he served as District Director in South Florida. In that period, he reviewed all cases involving serious violations of the FLSA to determine the disposition of same, conferred with employers and/or their representatives regarding the investigation and application of the FLSA, back wage restitution, civil money penalties and proposed litigation. In addition, he was frequently called upon by both the WH Regional and National offices to participate in various teams to formulate and implement enforcement strategies, to develop educational and training materials for both the enforcement staff and the public and to conduct training for new Technicians and Investigators and for WH managers.
Since retiring from the Department of Labor, Mr. Rivero has acted as a consultant for business in designing and implementing compensation systems to ensure compliance with the FLSA. Additionally, He has also served as an expert for both management and employees on matters relating to the FLSA.
