Dr. John R. Fletemeyer

Dr. John R. Fletemeyer is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading expert in aquatic safety. He is a research professor at Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research where he directs aquatic studies and programs. He is the recipient of the Paragon Award for Aquatic Safety and the Judge Martin Award. Twice he has been recognized by his peers as the “Top 100 Aquatic Professionals in America” and was honored with the NAUI 25 year distinguished service award.

Dr. Fletemeyer has served in a number of elected, leadership positions including Chairman of the National Aquatics Coalition, Vice Chairman of the International Swimming Hall of Fame and Education Chairman for he United States Lifesaving Association.

Dr. Fletemeyer brings over 35 years of professional work in aquatics to the table along with over 100 articles including the book, Drowning New Perspectives in Intervention and Prevention. He has served as an aquatic consultant for 50 organizations and government agencies, and has been an expert in over 100 beach and swimming pool accident cases including some located overseas.
