Dr. David R. Lenorovitz, PhD, CPE

David R. Lenorovitz, PhD, CPE, is a Human Factors Engineer / Ergonomist with over 40 years of professional experience. His expertise is in specifying, designing, developing, testing, evaluating, and enhancing the human-system-interfaces for users of a large variety of systems, equipment, task environments, and consumer products. He holds BA, MS, and PhD degrees in experimental psychology, industrial engineering, and human factors engineering, and is also a certificant of the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics.

Dr. Lenorovitz has ergonomically analyzed the equipment used, methods employed, and procedures followed by users across a wide range of systems – e.g., from highly-trained and sophisticated users such as NASA shuttle astronauts, FAA air traffic controllers, Air Force pilot candidates, technical equipment maintenance specialists, and crane operators, to more common and recognizable users such as bus drivers, chemistry students, sport-fishing boat pilots, home improvement do-it-yourselfers, home and office computer users, walkway and stairway pedestrians, and consumers of everyday commercial products.

In all such situations, Dr. Lenorovitz's common focus has been on professionally analyzing and understanding the activities and tasks the user is attempting to perform; the background, training, and expectations that the user brings into the situation; and the instructions, tools, equipment, supplies, and/or facilities made available to him/her. The challenge of the Human Factors / Ergonomics professional is to ensure that applicable, scientifically-developed knowledge about the capabilities and limitations of human beings, and how they operate and perform tasks, has been properly factored into the design, implementation, and operating procedures of the human-interactive systems these people must use.

On the forensic human factors front, Dr. Lenorovitz has specifically been involved in applying his specialized expertise to issues of safety hazard analysis; risk identification and risk mitigation efforts; assessments of reasonable and foreseeable system usage scenarios; evaluating the adequacy of safety instructions and warning labels; and considering the provision and adequacy of warning information system components. He has been retained by both plaintiff and defense attorneys to exercise these skills, and to develop, present, and defend independent human factors assessments and expert opinion reports. One of common threads he follows in these endeavors is trying to find more effective ways to communicate technical human factors issues, ergonomic principles and best professional practices to lay audiences.
