 Captain John C. Timmel

Captain Timmel sailed as an unlimited Merchant Marine Officer, has a Master's license, and has been a Tampa Bay Harbor Pilot since 1987. Active in the maritime industry at many levels, he lead the development of a carry-on GPS based pilot navigation system used as a model world-wide and received the prestigious Propeller Club's "International Maritime Person of the Year Award." Captain Timmel has also served as an Adjunct Professor teaching shiphandling and watchstanding practices for New York Maritime during their Summer Sea Terms aboard the training ship, the EMPIRE STATE VI. Captain Timmel remains very active in the boating and yachting communities with over 40 years of experience. In recent years, he has been Youth Sailing Director, Fleet Captain and Governor for Tampa Yacht Club and served as Delegate on the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs. Captain Timmel has served as an expert witness for over ten years in high-profile plaintif and defense cases and is an acknowledged expert in shiphandling, piloting, Sail and power boating practices, boating and personal water craft accidents, navigation and piloting, Rules of the Road, marine operations, electronic navigation and seamanship. Able to explain complex maritime terms and processes in an easily understood manner, he is very credible and convincing in the stand. Captain Timmel is quite personable and makes a valuable addition to any legal team.
