Mrs. Barbara Lee Holland, CPM®, is President and principal owner of H&L Realty & Management Company in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is the Executive Officer Responsible for the development and growth of the property management, commercial brokerage and leasing divisions. The company’s portfolio consists of over 4000 residential units and over 760,000 square feet of commercial and office space. Mrs. Holland has been involved in real estate management since 1971, where she was the director of property management for Revest Company in Hartford, Connecticut.
Mrs. Holland has been very active both on the local and national IREM levels. She was the first Las Vegas IREM President in 1984. For IREM National, she has been the Vice-Division Director of Communications Division, Chair of the Publishing Committee, Chair of the Journal of Property Management, and 101 & 103 Course Board Director. Mrs. Holland served as Regional Vice President of IREM (1993-1994). Mrs. Holland served on the Executive Committee of IREM National, as a Member-At-Large in 1996. She was a senior member of the faculty committee for IREM. Mrs. Holland has served as the Education Course Director for IREM National’s Residential Seminars. She has served numerous times as a councilor for IREM National’s Governing Council.
Mrs. Holland has served as the President for the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors. She served 12 consecutive years as a Director for the Nevada Association of Realtors®. In 1996, she received the Realtor of the Year Award from the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors. In 1997, Ms. Holland also served on the Executive Committee of the Nevada Association of Realtors.
Mrs. Holland’s teaching experience includes IREM’s Seminar RES 201 (“Successful On-Site Management”), IREM’s “Managing Single-Family Homes” and “Small Residential Properties”, Fundamental and Intermediate Seminars for IREM’s ARM and CPM programs, Community Association seminars and courses for the Nevada Real Estate Commission, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Continuing Education Department, the Nevada Association of Realtors® and Professional Education Systems, Incorporated and National Business Institute, Incorporated.
Mrs. Holland has written a number of articles for the “Journal of Property Management” on subjects ranging from energy conservation to employee motivation. She is the recipient of the Article of the Year (1991), from the Journal of Property Management on “Agency and Legal Liability.” Mrs. Holland’s Successful Residential Management, The Professional’s Guide, served as the student textbook for IREM’s RES 201 Course, “Successful Site Management.” She is the author of IREM’s Managing Single Family Homes book, and co-author of IREM’s How to Write an Operating Manual - A Guide for Apartment Management and co-author of Landlord/Tenant Law in Nevada. Ms. Holland writes a weekly column for The Las Vegas Review Journal Newspaper on Association Management and Living. Ms. Holland is a feature writer for the Managing Housing Letter, a nationwide publication covering private, public and assisted rental housing.
Mrs. Holland is the first woman in the United States to be admitted to the Journal of Property Management’s Academy of Authors and has received IREM’s Professional Achievements Award. Mrs. Holland was just recently honored by the IREM Foundation in June, 1996 when she received the prestigious Louise L. and Y.T. Lum Award for her contributions in real estate education and publication. In June, 1997, the IREM Foundation awarded Ms. Holland the Lloyd D. Hanford Sr. Distinguished Faculty Award for her dedication and contribution to the education of her students. Ms. Holland is the only person to have received both the Lum and Hanford awards. Her academic credits include a master’s degree in Urban American History from the University of Connecticut.
