A: In addition to completing a two-year document examination apprentice/mentor program, Ms. Smith has a Bachelor of Science from Campbell College, now University, and was enrolled in a Master of Science graduate study program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for two years.

Photoshop techniques are an important part of her work and Ms. Smith has completed over 60 hours of specialized Photoshop training, with a majority from the Metropolitan Police Institute, Miami-Dade Co, FL.

She stays current in her field and has accumulated over 510 hours of continuing education from the National Association of Document Examiners (NADE), the Scientific Association of Forensic Examiners (SAFE) , the Association of Forensic Document Examiners (AFDE), the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST). the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS), and other profession associations.

A: Ms. Smith has been a member of the National Association of Document Examiners (NADE) since 2008. In addition to presenting at several conferences, she was NADE Conference Lead Chair in 2013, Co-Chair in 2014, and served on the Conference Advisory Board from 2014-2016. Currently, she serves on the NADE Journal Editorial Committee as a Board Member and served in this capacity from 2010-2015 and in 2019.

Ms. Smith has been a member of the Scientific Association of Forensic Examiners (SAFE) since 2017 and has presented at an annual conference. She served as Interim Secretary for a portion of 2018.
