Dr. Turnbull's specialty training and surgical career has been spent entirely at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. His practice has been dedicated to general/thoracic surgical oncology with a special interest in esophageal, gastric intestinal, and pancreatic cancer. Dr. Turnbull has also had an interest in perioperative care of patients undergoing major surgical procedures for cancer and has published extensively in this area. Other published articles authored or co-authored reflect his declared area of interest in addition to malignancies such as melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma.

He has over a decade of experience with medical-legal case reviews for both plaintiff and defense. In April 2003, he participated in the first Expert Witness Certification program of the American Society of General Surgeons.

Dr. Turnbull is Emeritus Professor of Surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is also Surgeon Emeritus at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Professor of Surgery at McGill University in Montreal Canada.
